LA VERGNE, TN –Lightning Print Inc., announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement for purchase of the assets of JNMedia, a leading developer of software for the electronic book publishing industry. The acquisition of the software company will substantially strengthen Lightning’s pioneering "on demand" printing capabilities and pave the way for other eBook digital fulfillment services slated for commercial availability later this year.
"This acquisition is an important step in reaching our vision for the future of digital fulfillment services. JNMedia adds new software, technology, expertise and depth to our current digital capabilities. The addition of JNMedia will strengthen both our print-on-demand (POD) efforts and our development of a comprehensive suite of digital services to meet the changing needs of publishers and booksellers," said Lightning President and CEO Ed Marino.
A key component of JNMedia’s software development is the new technology, known as EPODIUM (Electronic Publishing On Demand In Unlimited Media). EPODIUM will be integrated into Lightning’s development of a comprehensive architecture for the storage, distribution and display of electronic book content.
"We see this partnership as a chance to fundamentally enhance and improve the publishing industry. Lightning shares our core goals and is uniquely positioned to use this technology to take the industry to new heights," said JNMedia founder and President Jonathan Nathan.
JNMedia Executive Vice President Andrew Weinstein said the company sought out Lightning as an industry pioneer. He stressed that the relationship with Lightning was a logical and easy fit from the very first discussions: "We’ve witnessed first-hand the difference technology can make in expanding marketplace opportunities and giving publishers and booksellers choices they never thought existed before. By joining hands with Lightning, the possibilities are endless."
As part of the arrangement, Nathan and Weinstein will join the Lightning management team, adding important expertise at a critical time as the company expands its digital service offerings.
