Lightning Source Inc. Enhances eBook Solutions with Popular Palm Reader Application
More titles and Palm Reader format option seen as a plus for the eBook industry

LAVERGNE,Tenn., SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Lightning Source Inc., the leading provider of digital content management solutions to the book industry, and Palm Digital Media, the leading publisher and distributor of eBooks for handheld computers, have entered into an alliance to jointly market their fulfillment services and eBook format offerings to the eBook community worldwide. Palm Digital Media is a business unit of PalmSource, Inc., the Palm OS(R) subsidiary of Palm, Inc.

Palm Digital Media and Lightning Source will leverage their technological expertise and work with publishers to increase the volume of eBook titles in Palm Reader format available to consumers. Under the new alliance, Lightning Source will expand its current suite of digital content fulfillment services and eBook format offerings to include the Secure Digital Fulfillment (DRM) of Palm Reader formatted eBooks. Palm Digital Media will obtain access to additional worldwide channels of distribution for Palm Reader eBook titles.Palm Reader, one of the leading eBook reader applications, runs on Palm Powered handheld devices using Palm OS 3.0 and higher, as well as Pocket PC 2002 handhelds.

Lightning is currently working with its existing eBook partners to enable them to sell Palm Reader content to their eBook consumers in addition to its Microsoft Reader and Adobe eBook Reader format offerings. Lightning Source expects to have its first dealers offering Palm Reader eBooks by mid-summer.
